Download “No Love in Your Punches” | Attention “hipsters”: responding to my endeavor to find you folks–how you have plagued us with your youth and your red-framed sunglasses–Adam Roddick of The Royal Chains comes to my aid like a knight on a horse. Says he: “I think another important characteristic of a hipster is that they embrace irony maybe a little too much”. That insight will be central to everything I understand about you from here on.

The Royal Chains is playing with Shilpa Ray & Her Happy Hookers, Werewolves, and Soft Black at Cake Shop. Argyle Johansen is continuing his July residency and Pete’s Candy Store, where you can watch him for free (video below). The Crimea is also playing there, download the album for free.

More bands after the jump:

The Extraordinaires, Tavo Carbone, The Dig, Frankpollis play Union Pool. Someone Still Loves You Boris Yelstin with Ha Ha Tonka (video below) and Wakey! Wakey! at Music Hall of Williamsburg

The Billionaires is playing Pianos, where Thing-One continues its residency of “supreme trip hop”. Also playing there are Hooray For Earth, Sweden’s Doctors and Dealers, and The Pack A.D. Over at Bowery Ballroom, bluegrass is abloom: Crooked Still, Catham County Line and Infamous Stringdusters. Ron Sexmith plays at Joe’s Pub and Dengue Fever (who was a little too Las Vegas for me at McCarren Pool) plays a late show there.
