Dark Dark Dark Sings at the Secret Garden
Dark Dark Dark was founded by wandering musicians Nona Marie Invie and Marshall Lacount, and when I first heard a song from their forthcoming album The Snow Magic, the imprints of travel and rootlessness must have been immediately apparent because it just so happens that I believe wandering musicians and rootlessness to embody the spirit of music, and unsurprisingly, I instantly fell in love with the band. So I was more than psyched to film these videos with them in Bushwick, where they were shooting a proper music video for the song “Colors” with Michael Hart.
After that shoot, we filmed these two videos, in which Nona plays accordion, Marshall plays banjo, and the quartet’s remaining half Jonathan Kaiser and Todd Chandler play cello and bass respectively. The person you see in yellow t-shirt is choreographer Adam Weinert, who is one of the performers at Deitch Studios tonight and tomorrow night, when Dark Dark Dark plays with friends who sailed down the Hudson from Troy on seven rafts they helped build as part of the The Swimming Cities of Switchback Sea project. The Snow Magic is the band’s first full-length, and comes out on October 28th from Supply and Demand Music. Special thanks to Tom Inhaler!

Her voice is just so haunting, and when they all start singing the chorus in “Trouble No More”, it gives me chills… It’s like you’re being engulfed by their sorrow. I love it; their sound is addicting and I can’t wait to hear more!
