This song is old, but I only heard it this week. And I stole this photo from YACHT’s flickr. I couldn’t find any from the Rhizome benefit at Hiro Ballroom. Who went, I’d like to know. Also: Friday!

The Headlights have a new video for their single “TV,” handiwork by j-four. Tristan Wraight’s hidden talent: riding the bicycle with three people on board. Also, the fabulously-titled album is available on vinyl for $12.99 from Insound or $10 from the label.

This is the kind of track for which I reserve the term infectious. Total supernova. Folks are calling Parts & Labor Brooklyn’s noise punks, a great thing to be called. Following up to 2006’s Stay Afraid, Jagjaguwar/Brah will release Mapmaker on May 22. Currently on North American tour but we’ve already missed Brooklyn.

Dog Day plays out of Halifax, Nova Scotia, and it’s signed to Tomlab to bring the upcoming album Night Group to the US and UK on June 12. Despite the title and lyrics, “Oh Dead Life” is upbeat and is held together by Seth Smith’s somewhat deadpan, though inherently sad, voice.
And yes, this appears to be a new move for Tomlab, known for signing bands that are considered “experimental,” including the Books and Final Fantasy.
Download “Gotta D.J.” (from the forthcoming Hot Springs album)
Download “Kicking a sailor in the teeth” (from AM Syndicate’s Empire)

Montreal’s Hot Springs has been busy finishing up its debut album- done dealing with “great meals” and “wonderful space,” now engaged in the laborous act of picking photos for the new album artwork and deciding on a label. With Giselle’s extraordinary voice and the band’s increased chemistry since the release of their last EP, the new tracks are sounding great.

This from Dragcity:
Believe it or not, Joanna Newsom’s also back in your face in April, world! By then, her planetary tour will be partially complete (we’re still working on Antarctica and the Sandwich Islands), but you can’t stop the Ys-er! There’s another new song to be released to the ever-growing JNA, and what better way to release it than a sweet little EP? And what better way to title a sweet little record that with a smart-arsed title like “Joanna Newsom and the Ys Street Band”? Yeah, that’s the title! So, you got a new song and two songs remade in the image of Joanna 2006-07 with her touring band (hence the fanciful title). And guess what? It’s great, too.
It comes out April 24.

Tears of the Valedictorian is the latest from Frog Eyes, due May 1 from Absolutely Kosher. I’ll post a full review soon but be assured: Carey Mercer and crew appear to have their beautiful shit together. They’ll be playing Mercury Lounge ($10) on May 18 and Union Hall ($10) on the 19th.
