Posts about Nurses
Met up with Portland trio Nurses for some morning voice over iced-tea, and the piano at Piano’s (!). They played stripped-down versions of some songs from their new album Dracula (while someone diligent cleaned the crap out of that place); included here are “New Feelings” and “Trying to Reach You”. Sounds pretty good…

Kristian Matsson, who goes by the name The Tallest Man on Earth, knows what to expect from New York. Last night he played Highline Ballroom for the first time, a higher capacity venue than Bowery Ballroom and Music Hall of Williamsburg, and sold it out in advance. This was an all-age show, which meant an avalanche of super excited young fans (“I don’t think you should go to school tomorrow”, said one little thing to the other after the show ended). The fans sang in the words that Kristian left out (“in your eyes babe”, “leather”). Someone yelled out something in Swedish, and Krisitian claimed the translation was “you fucking pussy”. He mocked the girl who yelled, “Say something in Swedish”. He addressed the impracticality of too many requests: “That Jackson Browne Cover”, “I Fall to Pieces”. “How can I sing them all?” is what he said, “We’ll be here all night”.

Pianos: Jezebel hosts a free show featuring Dark Dark Dark, who’s also playing Deitch Studios tomorrow and the day after. The band set sail with seven rafts that were part of The Swimming Cities of Switchback Sea project, leaving Troy, NY on Friday, and reaching Long Island City, Queens, where the fleet has docked at said studios. It’ll remain stationed there as part of an exhibition. Dark Dark Dark’s promising album, The Snow Magic, comes out October 28th, and they’re playing tonight with Action Lives, Jared Glenn, and Alex Diaz. This event is followed by a DJ set from Sammy Bananas.

More bands and all mp3 links after the jump.
