"Sharon Van Halen" Stolen

Singer Sharon Van Etten’s Apple G4 laptop, bearing a red streak from the time she painted her nails red and accidentaly scratched it, has gone missing! Lovingly named “Sharon Van Halen”, the machine’s deskop was set to the picture of a Dolly Parton statue. Sharon had parked her car near East Houston street and Suffolk street on Thursday night, from where the laptop hidden underneath the seat in a black fitting laptop case with no strap, just handles, was stolen, leaving Sharon several songs poorer: all of the new songs she’d worked on this year were on that computer; tracks by Sharon Van Halen and Sharon Van Etten populate the iTunes. If by a stroke of magnificent chance you happen to see this device floating around, you can contact Sharon on her myspace (or you can always buy her wonderful CD to help her pay for her new laptop!). Sharon van Etten sings at the Secret Garden

If it weren’t for people’s obsession with the process of music, there would be no air guitar tournaments, and years spent fantasizing yourself performing some of your favorite songs would vanish. Some people don’t care to watch the bands on stage as long as they can listen, but for others, the slight movement of hands, the swing of the arms, and the expression of faces that manufacture bits of sound that converge to form music makes a whole lot of a difference (though music videos seem to do the opposite, often distracting you from the music). And sometimes, a song you hadn’t specially cared for finally claims your attention when casually hummed by a friend.

Photos: Wildbirds & Peacedrums played w/ Sharon Van Etten and Adem

Download Doubt / Hope” | Sweden’s Wildbirds & Peacedrums proceeds its stage activities by unclothing its music of whatever coat, and letting it dance in its bare glory with tortured singing over telling drums. If the percussion is the peace drums, the singing here is the wild bird without a doubt. Except, the percussion here has nothing to do with peace – it goes right into rolling the drama out of each calamity. The blues in the band’s music is how the blues must’ve been in its beginnings: a metaphysical crisis sprung not just from any heartache, but the acceptance of living and its myriad of gems, despite the inevitable downfalls it must put you through, which by the way is what they mean by “selling the soul to the devil”. Unfortunately, “I Can’t Tell in His Eyes” (posted above) isn’t the best example, despite the great lyrics, but that’s what’s available for free right now.

More photos, and the amazing Sharon Van Etten, after the jump.
